Geographic Evidence Desk

A controlled way to inspect county cadastral shapes and historical map sources without inventing boundaries or sovereign-status overlays.

USGS terrain basemapOfficial GIS parcel outlinesNo guessed boundaries
Two distinct map layers. The geographic background comes from USGS The National Map (terrain, streets and waterways), with an optional OpenStreetMap street view. County parcel outlines load separately from Erie County's public Parcel Query service (source S22) when requested or opened through a parcel link. Outlines are aligned to geographic coordinates; neither the basemap nor the county tax-map polygon certifies a legal survey, Seneca Nation boundary, federal land status, or jurisdiction. Public map-tile providers receive ordinary browser requests for the currently displayed area.

Historical and contemporary geographic sources

Current tax mapping

Erie County Parcel Query

Public tax-map polygons by SBL; geometries may be updated. County boundary features are not certified deeds or federal sovereign boundaries.

1844 archival reference

Buffalo Creek historical map

Shows historical reservation sale geography, not present reservation or restricted-fee status. Do not overlay it on current SBLs as a legal boundary without georeferencing and survey controls.

Nation official sources

Nation maps and transportation

Official Nation boundary and transportation materials must be consulted in their own context; mapping service jurisdiction and federal title are separate questions.

Planned Phase 2 work

Certified tract-to-SBL crosswalk

Obtain deeds, federal status decisions, official tract exhibits and recorded surveys before publishing jurisdiction or restricted-fee overlays.
